How to Teach Children to Be Green

Teach Children to be Green.Creating a new generation of stewards for the planet starts with the next generation and how we teach children to be green. While you may not realize it, children are looking to you to set the tone and example for how to make the world a better place.

It’s critical to start at a young age and teach children to be green. They need to understand that the world is not an endless supply of resources for the taking. Understanding consequences for their decisions is a principle that all parents go want their kids to learn and this is no different. Those same principles hold true for teaching youth to take care of the environment.

Helping children to understand how their actions contribute to energy consumption and the production of waste will help them make more informed decisions are they grow older. A child that understands the concept of reduce, reuse, and recycle has a head start in the world. Teaching kids to be eco-smart helps them make healthier decisions that will carry with them through their lives.

Teach Children to Be Green By Making it a Family Project.

Helping your kids learn how to better take care of the environment will be much easier as a family activity. Watching you do the same actions you are teaching is a great way to reinforce positive behaviors. Start by explaining the concepts of reduce, reuse, and recycle.

  1. Reduce how much you consume and throw away. This includes reducing how much energy your family consumes, and resources such as water or fuel. Teach kids to turn off the water and turn off electronic devices when not in use.
  2. Reuse the items around the house rather than toss them in the trash. Can’t use the item any more, than donate it.
  3. Recycle plastics, metals, paper, and glass.
